Founded in the early 1990s with double digit unemployment and welfare on the rise, Solutions was formed to develop better ideas for communities, workplaces and individuals to pursue and realize. Within three years, four new organizations were formed in response, including The Birmingham Job Shop, The Career Assistance Ministry (501c3), Career Solutions, Inc. and Workplace Solutions, Inc. Significant contributions were made to The Private Industry Council in support of welfare-to-work initiatives. And with the help of The Birmingham Area Chamber of Commerce, Business Basics was published to provide guidance to local businesses related to hiring less educated workers. All of that was the beginning of The Better Project today...which continues to develop better ideas for communities, workplaces and individuals.
