Everything with a future must have a strong foundation, and for this ministry that includes as many faithful churches as possible offering Godly encouragement and Scriptural accountability. Having visited nearly two hundred churches in 50 of the the largest cities from Miami Florida and Atlanta Georgia, to Detroit Michigan and Portland Maine, our foundation is certainly growing. (Eph 4:15-16)
We're still visiting churches and sharing all that we learn along the way. We've added a weekly blog to discuss the highlights of what we've discovered and unique content ranging from Work Theology and Reasonable Faith, to Experiencing God More and Discovering True Reality. Everyone experiences God, but we don’t all recognize Him the same way. (2 Tim 3:16-17)
Our progression includes glorifying and enjoying God more, but that requires recognizing Him first, and His will for each and all of us. And while He's simply too awesome for any one of us to know completely, the more united and inclusive we are through General and Special Revelation, the more we can share what we learn, and faithfully serve Him. (Rom 1:18-20)
Most people what to know the driving force behind the ministries they support, and for now that's primarily me! The sooner I'm replaced with hundreds of faithful churches leading the way, the better...but until God blesses this project and ministry, here's what's driving me.
I can't remember a time I wasn't led by God, though I didn't fully recognize how much until I reached my late twenties. God has a way of leading us wherever He knows is best, and that included a highly dysfunctional family life as a child, a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ at age eleven, and numerous athletic and leadership accomplishments in my teens. From there I earned a degree in Business Administration from the University of Alabama and Commission in the United States Army by age 22, before enjoying unexplainable success in business by my early thirties. But my gifting in faith, understanding and empathetic care, and the urging of the Holy Spirit encouraged me to leave my financial career behind to join a church staff and establish the Career Assistance Ministry, which linked Birmingham's seven largest churches in ministering to double-digit unemployment in the early 90s. The success from that ministry is at the heart of The Better Project--God is a part of everything, and the more we unite together in glorifying and enjoying Him in all things (including careers), the more we can recognize His Church loving Him, Better Together!
Life has a way of moving us around too, including marriage, parenting, and for me, divorce...and that last one crushed me! But twenty years later, after my three children graduated from college, it was time to pick up where I left off, uniting churches to recognize and glorify Him more, with ALL our hearts, souls, strengths and MINDS.
In the interim, I became an organizational development consultant devoted to helping people accomplish more with less in more than a dozen industries ranging for retail and wholesale, to business services and FDA regulated environments. I earned a Masters in Biblical Counseling from Birmingham Theological Seminary a dozen years ago, and have been studying neuropsychology, philosophy and physics for the past few years to help me share what I believe God has revealed through a book series titled, BetterForYouBooks.
Which leads me back to you! If you're reading this, it's because you've been touched in some way, to simply keep this ministry in your prayers, or participate in one or more of the ways described on the ministry's landing page.
